HCLTech is set to fortify its telecom capabilities through a strategic acquisition of HPE’s Telco Solutions business. This move amplifies HCLTech’s prowess in engineering, AI, and cloud-native services tailored for the telecom industry. With Telco Solutions under its wing, the company acquires vital intellectual property, robust product engineering, and a seasoned R&D team. This step enhances their relationships with Communication Service Providers, owing to the unit’s support of over a billion devices globally.

Previously part of HPE’s Communications Technology Group, Telco Solutions offers cutting-edge Operations Support Systems, Home Subscriber Servers, and 5G Subscriber Data Management. These are enhanced with AI-driven network automation, previously a segment of assets HCLTech acquired a year earlier. The integration with HCL’s existing portfolio includes Business Support Systems, network applications, service cloudification, and data intelligence.

The acquisition is not just about expanding assets but about accelerating key initiatives like Network as a Service and AI-led autonomous networking. The deal brings around 1,500 specialized engineering and telecom professionals into HCL’s global team, across 39 countries.

As Anil Ganjoo, Chief Growth Officer at HCLTech, puts it, “We are very excited about the opportunity ahead, as HCLTech is uniquely positioned to empower CSPs to realize their transformation into true technology companies-advancing the shift from telcos to techcos.” The integration of HPE’s market-proven capabilities augments HCL’s path toward more valuable, IP-led services.

Rami Rahim from HPE reinforces this sentiment, stating, “HCLTech has a compelling vision for enabling CSPs that will harness the Telco Solutions business’s momentum… This transaction will yield benefits for CSPs for many years to come.”

Although the move seems promising, it’s subject to regulatory reviews with an expected conclusion in about six months. This acquisition represents a significant shift in HCLTech’s strategy, focusing on transformation and innovation in the vital telecom sector.
