Thai telecom company True Corporation is embarking on a transformative journey towards becoming an AI-oriented telecom-tech firm. This shift marks a significant departure from traditional telecom operations. The company unveiled its strategic framework, “Four Big Moves,” designed to revolutionize customer experience, integrate AI, offer new digital services, and bolster workforce development over the next three years.
True Corporation aims to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) across network operations, customer service, and internal systems under this strategy. The company’s intent is clear: move beyond mere connectivity. It intends to enhance both consumer and enterprise services while upgrading its 5G and broadband networks across Thailand.
Group CEO Sigve Brekke underscores the transformative nature of this strategy, emphasizing that True is transitioning into an AI-focused entity. The adoption of AI will enable a shift towards more autonomous, predictive operations that elevate both performance and customer experience. These enhancements will encompass both mobile and broadband services, utilizing a single digital ecosystem that links mobile, home broadband, and other digital platforms.
True is also aiming to diversify its service offerings. In the consumer space, the focus is shifting towards household-level service bundles. Packages will integrate mobile services, broadband connectivity, digital platforms, and security services, hence enhancing value for consumers. In the enterprise segment, True plans to expand its digital solutions, supporting businesses and SMEs through offerings like big data analytics, AI, cloud services, and collaborative endeavors with global cloud providers.
Sigve Brekke also highlights the crucial role of human capital in deploying AI technology. True plans to invest in AI education and infrastructure, initiating an AI literacy program for 12 million Thai citizens and implementing training programs for employees. Scholarships for advanced AI studies with international institutions are also a part of this initiative.
Feedback from industry counterparts shows a similar momentum. For instance, Liu Guiqing, President of China Telecom, acknowledged an identical AI-driven transformation strategy at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Liu noted how China Telecom is integrating AI and enhancing its cloud-network infrastructure, signifying a broader trend in the telecom industry.
This move by True Corporation signals not just an operational overhaul but a robust investment in AI as a driver for future growth. While the endeavor promises technological and operational advancements, its success will largely depend on the company’s ability to execute its strategy effectively and cultivate a well-trained workforce equipped to leverage AI capabilities. As telecom operators worldwide take similar steps, the transition to AI-driven operations seems inevitable in this ever-evolving digital landscape.
