Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, recently highlighted the company’s successful strategies at their shareholders meeting in Bonn. He emphasized that Deutsche Telekom (DT) serves as a “reliable anchor in a world of uncertainty.” The announcement of a historic dividend increase to €1 per share reflects the company’s strong performance. DT’s revenue grew by 4.2% last fiscal year, reaching over €119 billion, while adjusted earnings grew by 4.7%.

Höttges attributed DT’s success to their strategic presence on both European and American continents, mainly through its subsidiary, T-Mobile. This dual presence provides a unique advantage combining stability in Europe and dynamism in the US. The blend of these two markets allows DT to grow while maintaining a stable footing globally.

However, Höttges voiced concerns about increasing European regulatory measures, criticizing the “microregulation” approach. He argues that such stringent regulations impede economic scale essential for achieving European sovereignty. Europe needs balanced regulation, allowing telcos to scale effectively and maintain competitiveness while catering to market dynamics.

DT embraces innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI). “AI is the biggest gift our economy has ever been given,” Höttges stated confidently. He pointed out that AI enhances operational efficiency within DT, ensuring high quality and reducing the potential for errors. Furthermore, AI assists where specialist shortages exist, benefitting numerous operational areas, including network fault-finding, coding, and market analysis.

The company launched its Industrial AI Cloud in February, in Munich’s Tucherpark, built in collaboration with NVIDIA and Polarise. This facility offers sovereign computing power, aiding companies in scaling their operations without sacrificing data control. The project is gaining momentum, servicing various customers, including Agile Robots and PhysicsX, who utilize AI for technical simulations to expedite product development.

Moreover, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, DT previewed an AI voice assistant capable of real-time language translation. The AI reacts to customer commands and is deployable across various devices, ensuring accessibility and consistency across network services. Data privacy remains paramount, as the system only activates upon prompting and doesn’t retain user data.

Deutsche Telekom continues to set industry standards, leveraging its strategic market positioning and AI-driven innovations. Despite the regulatory hurdles, DT looks to forge ahead, harnessing technology to solidify its role as a dependable telecommunications leader.
