Verizon has secured a significant two-year extension to its Global Network Solutions (GNS) contract with the Department of Defense (DoD). This move pushes the contract’s overall value past the $98 million mark, a testament to the trust placed in Verizon’s capabilities. Initially awarded in 2016, the extended contract aims to enhance secure communication networks in Southwest Asia, underscoring the region’s critical importance to US government operations.
The primary focus of the contract extension is establishing a robust point-to-point connection within the area. This development will assist the DoD in eliminating outdated time division multiplexing (TDM) technology. By doing so, Verizon is fostering a move towards more modern, efficient communication networks across various federal agencies.
David Rouse, head of Verizon’s defense business, affirmed, “Verizon’s role in delivering a secure, point-to-point connection in the specified area highlights the Department of Defence’s continued confidence in our ability to provide critical network communications in strategic regions.” This statement encapsulates the confidence and reliability entrusted to Verizon in delivering essential network services.
Verizon’s relationship with the DoD is built on continued success and trust. Earlier this year, the US Navy awarded Verizon a $2.67 billion contract. This contract highlights Verizon’s ability to offer enhanced and cost-effective wireless solutions to military and federal entities. Such collaborations illustrate Verizon’s pivotal role in maintaining and advancing the government’s technological capabilities.
