PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) and BW Digital have forged a strategic alliance to develop the Nongsa-Changi submarine cable system. This project aims to enhance connectivity between Batam, Indonesia, and Singapore. The memorandum of understanding for this collaboration was signed during International Telecoms Week 2024 in Washington DC.

The Nongsa-Changi cable is a response to the growing data traffic between these two key locations for data center development. With 24 fiber pairs over 50 kilometers, it aims to provide robust, reliable communication links necessary for data-intensive and high-density AI applications.

This initiative underscores the synergy between BW Digital and Telin. They plan to leverage their combined expertise to strengthen connectivity and stimulate digital economic growth in the region. Upon completion, this submarine cable will seamlessly interconnect data centers in Batam and Singapore, establishing an efficient data transfer corridor.

Both companies are focused on technical excellence and environmental sustainability in deploying the new cable system. The cable is expected to be Ready For Service (RFS) by Q4 2025, marking an important milestone in regional digital infrastructure.

“BW Digital is pleased to expand its strategic alliance with Telin to deliver the first cable to directly link Singapore and Batam’s Nongsa Digital Park,” stated Ludovic Hutier, CEO of BW Digital. He emphasized the importance of providing diverse and secure connectivity for data center operators, enhancing their capacity to meet the rising demand from Singapore.

Budi Satria Dharma Purba, CEO of Telin, also expressed pride in continuing the partnership with BW Digital. He highlighted the collaboration’s role in developing Indonesia’s digital industry, particularly at Nongsa Digital Park, and the establishment of the Hawaiki Nui 1 submarine cable system. He added, “Extending our collaboration to connect Indonesia and Singapore further enhances DC to DC connectivity, reinforcing Telin’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge solutions for our customers.”
