Soracom, a division of KDDI, has integrated generative AI tools into its cellular IoT platform, enhancing the connectivity and service capabilities for its users. The move introduces two key services, Soracom Flux and Soracom Query Intelligence, aimed at simplifying and expediting IoT deployments, especially for non-technical users.

Soracom Flux allows users to build custom IoT applications using a low-code approach. This service integrates various data sources with generative AI engines like OpenAI, Google Gemini, Microsoft Azure AI, and Amazon Bedrock. It targets industries such as manufacturing, construction, healthcare, energy, and retail. With Flux, users can define data flows and issue natural-language commands, such as alerting if a camera detects workers without adequate protective gear.

On the other hand, Soracom Query Intelligence brings a new level of ease to IoT network management. It leverages natural language processing to allow managers to query network data and receive insights through descriptive text and data visualizations. This feature builds on the existing Soracom Query managed data warehouse, enabling complex data analyses without requiring SQL or data visualization skills.

Kenta Yasukawa, co-founder and CTO at Soracom, emphasized the transformative potential of these new tools. “We’ve always envisioned an internet-of-things where connected devices can interact with each other to make decisions in real time. The emergence of public gen AI services holds the potential to fulfill that vision. These new services drive AI much deeper within the IoT stack. Project teams can now accomplish in minutes what once took months and required expert skills. Even non-technical managers can now enjoy complete control of even the largest and most globally distributed IoT networks,” he stated.

The launch of Soracom Flux and Soracom Query Intelligence could significantly speed up IoT project timelines. Non-technical staff can now manage expansive IoT deployments and perform data queries without specialized training. This democratizes access to sophisticated IoT network management tools, potentially lowering costs and increasing agility.

Soracom Flux is available in public beta, with professional and enterprise plans coming later this year. Soracom Query Intelligence is in a preview phase for select customers, promising yet another layer of innovation for the expansive IoT market.
