Boingo Wireless has made headlines by deploying a sophisticated converged private network and Wi-Fi 6 solution at the Rhode Island Convention Center (RICC) and the Amica Mutual Pavilion (AMP). The RICC, a 120,000 square-foot exhibition and meeting facility, and the AMP, an arena seating up to 14,000, both now boast cutting-edge connectivity. This deployment includes over 500 Wi-Fi 6 Access Points and a private cellular network leveraging CBRS technology.
According to Boingo, these upgrades cater to a variety of applications like mobile ticketing, smart lighting, and seamless connectivity for exhibitors and mobile devices. Security for point-of-sale systems and data-sensitive applications is enhanced, emphasizing the network’s robust nature. For RICC’s Executive Director, Dan McConaghy, choosing Boingo was clear due to their exceptional wireless expertise. McConaghy stated, “Connectivity is the backbone of every event we host—whether it’s a corporate conference, a concert, family show, or sporting event.”
The Boingo system not only prioritizes guest connectivity but also streamlines operational functions and offers cybersecurity protection measures. A key advantage of the deployment is the seamless integration of both cellular and Wi-Fi networks, a task expertly managed by Boingo. This approach ensures consistent connectivity during high-demand events, meeting the expectations of fans and organizers alike, admits Boingo’s CEO, Mike Finley. “With Boingo’s converged private network and Wi-Fi 6 solution, both the Rhode Island Convention Center and Amica Mutual Pavilion are fully equipped to meet fan expectations and operational demands of live events,” he said proudly.
While the deployment showcases Boingo’s expertise, it also brings to light some potential challenges. High deployment costs and the complexity of managing such systems could pose obstacles for other venues considering similar upgrades. Yet, the benefits include enhanced security, improved fan engagement, and greater operational efficiency.
