Singapore’s Singtel has enhanced its 5G service by implementing the 700 MHz spectrum, marking it as Singapore’s first telecom operator to deploy this band. This upgrade extends the carrier’s 5G reach across Singapore, launching a service named ‘Singtel 5G+’ that improves signal strength by roughly 40% in various challenging environments such as high-rise buildings, underground, and remote areas throughout Singapore.

This development occurred after the Info-communications Media Development Authority approved the use of the 700 MHz spectrum. More than 1.5 million subscribers are expected to experience improved coverage without incurring additional costs.

Ng Tian Chong, CEO of Singtel Singapore, emphasized, “Today’s consumers are leading increasingly digital lifestyles, while businesses are seeking cutting-edge solutions to drive growth and innovation. Anticipating these demands, we invested ahead in achieving 5G coverage so Singapore could be a testbed for innovation and realize its Smart Nation ambitions. With 5G+, Singtel is setting a new standard in 5G connectivity that will benefit both consumers and enterprises. We will continue to explore the latest technologies to bolster our 5G+ offering to deliver enhanced digital experiences and enable more opportunities for our customers to advance.”

The deployment enables the 700 MHz spectrum to deliver signals over longer distances, creating stable, high-quality connections. Notably, areas like Tuas, Kranji, Sungei Kadut, Changi East, and Jurong Island benefit. These locales often struggle with telecommunications infrastructure installation due to space limitations, so the extended coverage represents a major advance.

Moreover, the 700 MHz band facilitates reliable signal penetration in dense buildings. This ensures uninterrupted voice and data service in spaces like basement garages and high-rise offices, where concrete often disrupts connectivity. Businesses in sectors like healthcare, public safety, and port operations will see efficiency gains from faster data transfers and real-time analytics.

High-quality video performance is crucial in industries like manufacturing and surveillance. The enhanced 5G capabilities provided by the 700 MHz spectrum are set to significantly improve performance in these domains by offering better signal stability.
