In a strategic move, Bharti Airtel has joined forces with SpaceX to bring Starlink broadband services to India. This collaboration marks a significant first, contingent on regulatory approval for Starlink’s deployment in the country.
The alliance between Airtel and SpaceX aims to augment Starlink services through Airtel’s extensive market knowledge and infrastructure. By partnering, both companies plan to offer reliable broadband, expanding coverage especially in remote regions. The integration of Starlink enhances Airtel’s existing portfolio, which already includes Eutelsat OneWeb.
To facilitate this, Airtel plans to introduce Starlink equipment through its retail facilities. This will broaden broadband access to schools, health centers, and communities currently lacking connectivity. Importantly, both companies are exploring how Starlink can elevate Airtel’s network capabilities while leveraging Airtel’s established infrastructure for better customer service in India.
Gopal Vittal, Airtel’s Managing Director, highlighted the significance of this partnership, expressing its value in providing high-speed internet across the country. He emphasized, “Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone and further demonstrates our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity.”
From the perspective of SpaceX, President and COO Gwynne Shotwell stated, “We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India.”
