Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud Strengthen AI Partnership

Deutsche Telekom, a leading German telecom operator, has significantly bolstered its collaboration with Google Cloud through a strategic agreement that extends until 2030. The focus of this extended partnership lies in the integration of cloud and AI technologies, aimed at modernizing the company’s IT framework, networks, and business applications. This strategic move aims to bolster next-generation telecom services while enhancing the operational efficiency of the telco.

A cornerstone of this partnership is Deutsche Telekom’s choice of Google Cloud as the primary partner for key business unit migration to the cloud. The plan is to modernize and scale the firm’s data and AI applications, aiming for a comprehensive digital transformation. These improvements focus primarily on customer service, network automation, and enterprise solutions.

Stefan Schloter, CIO of Europe at Deutsche Telekom, highlighted the company’s ongoing evolution into an AI-centric entity. “Telekom is evolving into an AI-centric company and improving its agility through the use of data and AI,” he noted. The partnership with Google Cloud is reflective of this shift toward innovation and efficiency. A few examples, such as the migration of Deutsche Telekom’s SAP systems to GCP and the introduction of Google’s Gemini Multimodal Live API, underscore the impact of this collaboration.

Increased use of Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, a unified developer platform, is part of the expanded agreement. This will facilitate Deutsche Telekom in the development, deployment, and scaling of AI applications using Google’s innovative Gemini models.
