Singaporean telecommunications operator M1 has embarked on an exciting partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson to enhance its 5G transport network. This collaboration is set to revolutionize how networks are managed, focusing on automation and advanced analytics tools. M1 will integrate Ericsson’s cloud-native transport automation controller into its systems, aiming to improve network visibility and control.
The automation system uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to optimize service quality and detect issues like interference. This leads to reduced energy consumption across M1’s microwave infrastructure. This upgrade will be crucial, especially in sectors like logistics, where network reliability is vital. The initiative also aligns with M1’s long-term digital transformation and sustainability goals.
Following a successful proof of concept, M1 intends to expand the Ericsson system into its IP network. The platform offers features such as interference detection and service assurance to improve network observability and efficiency. The AI-driven insights enhance not only performance but also contribute to power savings, supporting environmental objectives.
“By adopting intelligent automation, we are not only enhancing our network performance and reliability but also strengthening our commitment to sustainability and excellent customer experience,” said Denis Seek, chief technical officer at M1. The endeavor emphasizes not only technological advancement but also places importance on sustainability and customer satisfaction.
In addition to automation improvements, M1 has launched its commercial 5G RedCap network services, targeting enterprise clients. This marks a significant step, being the first known 5G RedCap service launch for enterprises in Southeast Asia. The 5G RedCap technology bridges older IoT systems with full 5G capabilities, promising improved reliability and cost efficiency. It enhances applications through better coverage, longer battery life, and lower latency. M1’s 5G infrastructure boasts extensive nationwide 5G Standalone coverage.
