T-Mobile has completed a $2 billion network expansion across the state of Florida. This extensive project, spanning several years, enhances its 5G coverage through new and upgraded cell sites. This initiative significantly boosts internet speeds for a wide range of users, including businesses, schools, healthcare providers, first responders, and residential customers.

The expansion integrated 1,282 new or existing sites from the merger with Sprint, with about 1,350 sites upgraded across Florida. Furthermore, T-Mobile fortified 1,375 sites to enhance emergency responses and disaster recovery capabilities. The result is an impressive increase in average statewide 5G download speeds to 266.7Mbps, marking a 216% improvement since 2021.

In Miami, the company invested $522.5 million since 2021, contributing to 361 new 5G sites. Meanwhile, in Tampa, investments have reached $256.4 million, facilitating 119 new sites, and Orlando saw investments of $204.2 million with 126 new sites.

Adding to these ground-based enhancements, T-Mobile is also introducing a Starlink-powered T-Satellite service, launching on July 23. This service will connect customers in remote areas, expanding coverage beyond the reach of terrestrial networks. David Bezzant, Vice President at T-Mobile Business Group, expressed that this investment strengthens communication during natural disasters and eliminates coverage gaps in remote regions.

Besides these developments, T-Mobile US is also advancing its 5G network by activating the 2.5 GHz spectrum acquired during FCC’s Auction 108. This acquisition, secured through a $304 million investment, expands their ‘Ultra Capacity’ 5G coverage to new communities, covering over 80 million people.

The completion of this Florida network expansion is part of an ongoing mission to cover more than 330 million people across two million square miles. The ‘Ultra Capacity’ 5G network already covers the majority of the nation, providing advanced connectivity solutions to millions of users.
