Zayo Europe is intensifying its infrastructural presence in Germany with the deployment of Ciena‘s advanced optical technology. This new venture covers an extensive 3,000 km fibre network across eight major metropolitan areas, including Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, and Berlin, and further stretches to Strasbourg, France.

The company is leveraging Ciena’s Reconfigurable Line System (RLS) and WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) solutions. These technologies enable Zayo Europe to offer universal 400G wave services in strategic German markets, with room to expand up to 800G and 1.6Tbps. This flexibility is crucial as data demands rise due to accelerated adoption of AI and cloud technologies.

Germany represents a key strategic zone, according to Zayo Europe’s CEO, Colman Deegan, especially since the EU is pushing forward on AI advancements. “Our approach to service delivery, utilising the latest generation optical networking technology powered by Ciena, enables us to provide our customers with ultra-low latency connectivity and unparalleled support for AI and cloud services,” Deegan stated.

Securing high-capacity networks is increasingly crucial for various German sectors as they adapt to greater digitalization. As a Carrier Managed Services partner using Ciena’s technology, Zayo Europe offers tailored wavelength services across its European footprint, including long-haul routes in Germany.

Ciena’s WL6e solution stands out as the industry’s first high-bandwidth coherent transceiver, driven by cutting-edge 3nm silicon. The economic benefits are clear, with a 50% reduction in space and power per bit. Additionally, the 6500 RLS from Ciena offers a compact, easy-to-deploy photonic layer solution. This aids scalability, minimizes hardware footprint, and provides more programming flexibility.
