Elevating Rigging Safety: A Look at Riedel’s Bolero System

Riedel Communications swapped the traditional rigging rope for the award-winning Bolero wireless intercom system to take the safety of its complex access, entertainment, and industrial rigging functions to an unparalleled height. Their new partner, the specialist outfit RISE® Pacific, has successfully deployed Riedel’s Bolero in projects renowned for high-risk operations in vertical spaces. Projects ranged from aerial shows and edifice inspections to emergency crisis management and deep tunnel crawls. Bolero has repeatedly proven its adaptability by demonstrating consistent, hands-free communication channels in even the most severe circumstances.

RISE Pacific director, Clancy Simpson, expressed, “When we were going through the risk assessment for our projects, Bolero was a critical element. We just wouldn’t have had the confidence to take on such high-risk projects without it”. Simpson vouched for the system’s value and versatility, accentuating it as instrumental to safety, efficiency, and clear communication. He further relayed the Bolero system’s adaptability and performance exceeding expectations.

Before Bolero, RISE Pacific encountered limitations with traditional radio channels in extreme circumstances, hampered by multiple transmissions, delayed messages, and signal disruption. Such drawbacks not only jeopardized safety but also introduced high financial costs due to errors during high-tension work like handling high-voltage cables in vertical spaces. This impelled them to integrate eight Bolero beltpacks and two antennas into their system, equipped with an expandable setup using Riedel’s NSA-002A network stream adapter via a pre-existing Motorola® interface. As a result, Bolero’s unrivalled flexibility and interoperability have enabled team members to move effortlessly and wirelessly, enhancing their safety and efficiency and making it invaluable in operations requiring precision and coordination.

Furthermore, Bolero’s innovation extends beyond safety. It invigorated RISE Pacific’s work environment, fostering camaraderie through a shared music channel, ‘RISE FM’. As evidenced during an event at an Australian airline’s hangar, amidst the jetliners’ deafening noise, Bolero enabled clear and efficient interactions, offered built-in hearing protectors, and integrated smoothly with the load monitoring system to enable audible alarms throughout the hangar.

“While Bolero has long been a trusted communication solution in the entertainment industry for sports, events, concerts, movies, and TV production, RISE Pacific’s deployment demonstrates the system’s vital role in safety and communication within mission-critical events and applications,” iterated Chris Johnson, Sales Director Australia & NZ at Riedel. He further emphasized Bolero’s unmatched reputation as the preferred choice in critical communication operations.
