Vertiv has introduced the Vertiv MegaMod CoolChip, a cutting-edge liquid cooling system integrated into a prefabricated modular (PFM) data center solution. This innovation targets the efficient and robust functioning of artificial intelligence (AI) computing. The MegaMod CoolChip promises to expedite the deployment of AI-critical digital infrastructure by up to 50% compared to traditional onsite builds.
The Vertiv MegaMod CoolChip boasts several advanced technologies including high-density liquid cooling, offering a turnkey solution that can be tailored to meet the specific platforms of leading AI compute providers. The system can scale according to customer needs, either retrofitting existing facilities or being constructed as a new standalone data center capable of supporting high-power CPU and GPU operations.

Recent research by Omdia reveals an increased demand for prefabricated modular and micro data center solutions, mainly due to the needs of AI. Vertiv leverages its extensive experience in prefabricated solutions to meet specific AI deployment demands, culminating in the MegaMod CoolChip.
Key features of the Vertiv MegaMod CoolChip include a high-density compute and cooling infrastructure. The system supports IT systems from customers’ chosen AI compute providers, incorporating accelerated computing platforms in equipment racks with integrated plumbing and high-density rack power distribution units (rPDUs). Moreover, Vertiv chillers and cooling distribution units (CDUs) facilitate direct-to-chip cooling, optimizing heat removal efficiency from high-power CPUs and GPUs.
Furthermore, the MegaMod CoolChip integrates high-efficiency power protection and distribution technologies. Vertiv’s power solutions ensure complete power protection and distribution from the utility to the computing rack. This setup includes Vertiv’s Trinergy uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and the Vertiv PowerNexus solution, which minimizes the power system footprint by closely coupling the UPS and switchgear.
The modular assembly of MegaMod CoolChip prefabricated units provides operational flexibility, making it suitable for new builds, retrofits, and expansions. As these units are assembled and tested in a controlled factory environment, they minimize risks and ensure top-notch quality.
