Softing IT Networks Launches Versatile CableMaster FO Power Meter

Softing IT Networks, a leading innovator in Ethernet cable certification and performance testing, has announced the launch of the CableMaster FO Power Meter. This new addition to the CableMaster product line offers a compact and convenient testing tool for fiber optic cables. It is specifically designed to measure multiple wavelengths, making it versatile for different testing needs.

The CableMaster FO measures seven different wavelengths and provides readings in decibel-milliwatts (dBm), decibels (dB), or milliwatts (mW). In addition to measuring power, it includes a visual fault locator, which helps in identifying port and polarity issues, and an attenuation meter for signal strength across multiple wavelengths. The device also equips technicians with a flashlight for dark spaces and a copper RJ45 patch cord tester for wiremap verification.

Designed for portability, the CableMaster FO comes in a pocket-sized format, making it convenient for jobsite mobility. It features a USB-rechargeable battery that lasts up to 80 hours. All readings are displayed on a clear digital screen, ensuring ease of use and readability.

Applications of the CableMaster FO include measuring fiber light loss or signal strength at the opposite end of a fiber line. Deane Horn, Director of Marketing for Softing Inc., explains, “CableMaster FO is a great example of how Softing creates portfolio advantage. After connecting the LinkXpert M3, a fiber network infrastructure tester, to inject a light source into the fiber, you can use the pocket-size CableMaster FO tester to measure the attenuation at the other end of the cable.”

This product offers significant benefits for telecommunications and VoIP engineers. The comprehensive range of features ensures accurate and multi-functional testing capabilities. The CableMaster FO also extends the versatility of existing equipment like the LinkXpert M3, enhancing functionality without the need for additional tools.

However, the compact design and reliance on internal battery power could be a point of concern for long-term, heavy-duty fieldwork. The battery’s 80-hour lifespan is extensive for short-term tasks but may require more frequent charging for extended field operations. Nevertheless, the device’s portability and comprehensive readout capabilities offer an invaluable advantage for telecom professionals.
