Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom and Ericsson have taken their collaboration to a new level. Together, they unveiled a cutting-edge 5G network slicing solution on Chunghwa Telecom’s live 5G Standalone network. This tech empowers enterprises with the ability to activate customized network slices as and when required.
Network slicing is not just a buzzword. It’s a crucial innovation that allows operators to allocate dedicated network resources to specific applications or services. Ericsson pairs its dynamic network slicing capabilities with Singtel‘s Paragon platform, making it possible for businesses to leverage on-demand network slices. These slices optimize network performance for events, critical operations, and applications, offering flexibility and predictability.
David Chou, President of Ericsson Taiwan, commented on the breakthrough. “This collaboration with Chunghwa Telecom demonstrates how Ericsson’s advanced 5G features can bring real-world, on-demand network slicing to enterprises. A 5G Standalone network with advanced 5G technology is essential to unlocking the full potential of differentiated connectivity.”
Currently, many enterprises rely on manually provisioned network services, which are often seen as cumbersome and expensive. Enabling self-service for network management could change this paradigm. Through APIs, businesses initiate slicing on-demand, allowing precise and timely allocation of resources during peak demands or specific operational needs.
An intriguing part of this development is its origin. In 2024, a year prior, Ericsson and Singtel united to enhance service orchestration and assurance, embedding APIs within Singtel’s Paragon platform. This partnership simplified ordering of communications services, as operations were deployed immediately through the network.
Chung-Yung Chia, President of Network Technology Group at Chunghwa Telecom, expressed enthusiasm about advancing digital transformation capabilities. “By activating slicing automation on our live 5G Standalone network, we are enhancing network performance and empowering new business opportunities.”
