A towering success: Cellnex revenue tops €1bn
Cellnex Telecom’s revenue for 2019 exceeded EUR 1 billion with 67.5 percent of total income coming from infrastructure services it provides to operators. The Spanish wireless infrastructure operator currently owns 36,471 operative sites in eight European countries and plans to add 28,000 more as a result of ongoing acquisition deals pending completion. Cellnex has also announced a partnership with Bouygues Telecom to help them deploy their 5G network. The two companies have agreed to create a joint venture (51 percent Cellnex and 49 percent Bouygues Telecom) that will deploy and operate a fiber network connecting infrastructure equipment across France.

Google plans to invest $10 billion in US offices and data centers in 2020
Google has unveiled its plans to invest more than USD 10 billion in offices and data centers across the United States in 2020. Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that the new investments will focus on 11 states, including California, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington. Last year, the tech giant said it would spend over USD 13 billion on data centers and offices in rural areas in states like Nebraska, Nevada, and Oklahoma. Google’s total costs and expenses grew around 19 percent at USD 36.81 billion for the recently announced fourth quarter, ending December 31.

Huawei’s Mate Xs and MatePad Pro 5G promise high-end tablet performance
Huawei has officially introduced the Mate Xs foldable smartphone and the MatePad Pro 5G tablet that run open-source Android 10 / EMUI 10 and will require non-Google core apps from Huawei AppGallery. The Mate Xs comes with a powerful Leica Quad Camera setup and stronger hinge, it features 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB onboard storage. The company said the new phone will launch globally next month for EUR 2,499. Huawei’s new MatePad Pro 5G tablet is equipped with the new Kirin 990 5G chipset, an eight-core CPU at a base clock of 2.86 GHz, a 16-core Mali-G76 GPU, and 8 GB of LPDDR4X dual-channel RAM. The tablet has a 7,250 mAh battery for its own needs and can recharge using a wired 40W SuperCharge system.

Samsung joins Nokia and Ericsson for US Cellular 5G
US Cellular, the fifth-largest mobile phone operator in the US, has entered into a commercial agreement with Samsung Electronics to provide LTE and 5G network solutions. Mike Irizarry, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of US Cellular, said, “We are excited at the prospect of working with Samsung to extend groundbreaking 4G LTE and 5G technology to our customers, expanding what is possible in consumer experiences and business applications.” Under the agreement, US Cellular may acquire Samsung’s commercially-proven network solutions, including 5G New Radio (NR) technology, to help US Cellular offer next-generation service.

Nokia introduces cloud-native Assurance and Experience software to help CSPs move toward experience-driven and automated 5G network operations
Nokia has launched Nokia Assurance Center and Nokia Experience Center, two new cloud-native software applications that will help communication service providers (CSPs) operate their networks more efficiently and drive new revenue opportunities. The Nokia Assurance Center automates network and service operations by using machine learning and effectively combines fault and performance management processes to drive intelligent root cause analysis. The Nokia Experience Center leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to enable automated action prioritization based on what customers experience. Both applications complement each other but operate independently to support the modular approach that many CSPs take to build their networks.
