The Philippines has made a significant leap in digital infrastructure with the inauguration of its first GPU-powered, AI-centric hyperscale data center, VITRO Sta. Rosa (VSR). The center, powered by GPU servers from NVIDIA, symbolizes the nation’s ambitions to become a regional digital hub. Officially opened by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and PLDT chairman Manuel Pangilinan, the facility represents a strategic step towards positioning the Philippines as a leader in digital infrastructure and innovation.

VSR is designed to meet specific AI workload demands, utilizing a vast 50-megawatt capacity to deliver robust services for AI and cloud applications. The data center, operational since mid-2024, aids telcos, enterprises, and global cloud providers by supporting secure, high-performance services. Its offering of “GPUaaS” allows businesses to access advanced AI computing capabilities without hefty initial costs, accelerating digital transformation across various sectors such as banking and healthcare.

According to President Marcos, the inauguration of VSR is a critical moment that showcases the Philippines’ readiness to host international tech companies and compete globally in the digitization era. Pangilinan also expressed bold plans to boost PLDT’s data center capacity to 500 megawatts, citing the need to parallel or surpass Malaysia’s market capacity. This move underscores the commitment to transform the nation into a genuine data center hub.

Another pivotal aspect of VSR lies in its connectivity. The center is seamlessly integrated into PLDT’s domestic fiber network and linked globally via major subsea cables like Jupiter and Asia Direct Cable. Its carrier-neutral architecture enhances network resiliency and diversity by enabling connections with multiple telecom operators.
