SIPTrunk Inc. has announced the launch of managed IP telephony services through its SIP trunking reseller platform, SIPTRUNK. The SIPTRUNK platform allows service providers to manage multiple customers and service delivery via a practical interface based on cloud support and Tier-1 networks. SIPTRUNK meets the market’s need for a SIP trunk management and provisioning platform in order to support businesses, governmental agencies, telecommunications providers and telephone companies. According to the company, it is expected that by 2025, expenditure in the SIP trunking market will reach $28.8 billion.

UK’s fiber startup Lumenisity enters the market
The UK start-up company Lumenisity has entered the market and released its first commercial products. Lumenisity was created to promote breakthroughs in the creation of hollowcore optical fiber. According to the company, data moves 50% faster in a hollowcore fiber, as the light travels through the air and allows for higher data capacity and greater availability due to the 1000x reduction in power caused by nonlinear effects. Lumenisity claims that the hollowcore fiber is the next big thing in fiber technology.

NTT is determined to acquire DoCoMo
NTT plans to buy its mobile unit NTT DoCoMo for a record sum of $40 billion. The former monopoly already owns about 66% of DoCoMo shares, and is offering $37 per share for the balance of the shares. Currently the offer is the largest to date in Japan. The Japanese government has put pressure on local telecom companies to cut their prices, and the buy-out of DoCoMo should alleviate these demands to some extent, as the mobile operator will no longer be accountable to shareholders. Jun Sawada, CEO of NTT, said: “As a result of this move, DoCoMo will become stronger with a more solid financial position so it will have capacity to carry out further price cuts.”

Nokia seals a deal with BT
Nokia has won a new contract with BT for the supply of a 5G RAN kit, along with an upgrade of existing 2G and 4G equipment. In the announcement, Nokia welcomed the new deal as it has become the UK’s largest provider of infrastructure for fixed and mobile operators. Nokia already provides RAN equipment across all technologies and is a major supplier for BT 3G infrastructure. The two companies also intend to jointly develop an open RAN. The size of the deal was not disclosed, but it is known that Nokia won 63 percent of BT’s contract.

Three Israeli operators launch 5G services
The three biggest Israeli operators, Pelephone, Hot Mobile and Partner Comms, launched commercial 5G services when they received a license to do so by the country’s government. The Israeli Ministry of Communications (MoC) awarded the concessions following last month’s auction of 5G-capable spectrum frequencies. In a government statement, it was noted that Israel has slowed down infrastructure deployment and that 5G would help the country return to a leadership position in the telecommunications sector by facilitating advances in the industry, technology, smart cities and the Internet of Things.
