Samsung Electronics has been selected by Canadian telecommunications operator Videotron to modernize its network infrastructure through the deployment of a 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and 4G LTE core gateway. This move marks an extension of their collaboration, which began with the RAN in 2019. Providing a cloud-native core solution, the upgrade leverages Dell PowerEdge servers, powered by AMD EPYC 9005 CPUs and Red Hat OpenShift, to enhance network resilience and scalability.

This project signifies a strategic shift for Samsung, transitioning from a RAN supplier to a main core provider for Videotron. The emphasis on cloud-native architecture promises reduced operational complexities and streamlined lifecycle management. The deployment will support Videotron’s diverse service offerings across Quebec and Canada, including its digital-first brand, Fizz.

Videotron’s decision to extend Samsung’s role into the core network highlights the successful delivery of previous RAN infrastructure, which was fundamental to improving its technological capabilities. The new core upgrades aim to augment service delivery capacity and flexibility, aligning with the ongoing expansion needs.

Moreover, Samsung’s increasing footprint in Canada is noteworthy. This deal underscores its growing presence in the Canadian telecom infrastructure, particularly enhancing its portfolio in cloud-native core deployments.

Adding to its accomplishments, Samsung has established a 5G innovation presence in Saskatchewan. In collaboration with SaskTel and Innovation Saskatchewan, Samsung launched a 5G innovation lab in 2025. This facility supports local businesses, students, researchers, and innovators by providing access to 5G technologies to foster innovation in the region.

This expanded collaboration and facility development indicate Samsung’s commitment to advancing telecommunications technology in Canada. By modernizing Videotron’s network infrastructure and ensuring cutting-edge solutions, Samsung is poised to strengthen its position in the Canadian market.
