GoFibre is pushing the boundaries of digital connectivity in North East Scotland with its ongoing expansion of full-fibre broadband services. By broadening its network in regions like Angus, Perth & Kinross, and Aberdeenshire, GoFibre is empowering rural towns and villages with ultra-fast, reliable internet, facilitating seamless remote work and buffering-free streaming. Households and businesses in Montrose, Dunkeld, and surrounding areas can soon enjoy speeds up to 1Gbps, a significant leap for local digital infrastructure.
While enhancing connectivity, this rollout is also fostering economic growth by creating 30 direct jobs and supporting 180 roles over the project’s lifespan. This initiative is part of a governmental contract aimed at boosting connectivity in poorly served areas. In 2025, GoFibre was appointed by the UK and Scottish governments to extend full-fibre broadband to approximately 63,000 remote premises in North East Scotland, aligning with Project Gigabit. This UK Government initiative aims to provide lightning-fast broadband to communities with limited access.
The Scottish Government plays a pivotal role in this strategy by managing the Scottish-related procurements of Project Gigabit. Besides government-backed projects, GoFibre is also commercially expanding to reach 100,000 premises at no public cost. This expansion significantly widens their existing infrastructure across Angus and Aberdeenshire.
Andy Hepburn, Chief Operating Officer at GoFibre, stated, “GoFibre’s on a mission to improve digital connectivity in rural and hard-to-reach areas. It’s fantastic to see that more homes and businesses in Perth & Kinross and Aberdeenshire Scotland will soon be ready to connect to our network and able to enjoy the same lightning-fast, ultra-reliable connectivity as the country’s cities.”
This expansion is not just about bridging the digital divide; it’s about uplifting communities by generating local employment during the rollout phase. For residents and businesses eager to be part of this digital revolution, purchasing or registering for updates is as easy as visiting GoFibre’s website.
As Scotland’s fastest-growing broadband provider, GoFibre is not only extending its technological footprint but also supporting local economies and improving quality of life in rural areas. These efforts present a promising evolution in UK’s digital infrastructure, unlocking new opportunities for enterprises and residents alike.
