Ericsson to be the sole RAN vendor for T-Mobile Netherlands
T-Mobile Netherlands has appointed Ericsson as a sole supplier for the renewal of its 5G network. Soren Abildgaard, CEO of T-Mobile Netherlands, stated, “I am confident that with the support of Ericsson we will continue to offer our customers the best mobile telecom experience. We have been leading in 4G for many years and we are and will continue to be so with 5G. In recent years, we have built a globally acclaimed 4G network.” According to the Dutch mobile operator, the choice was preceded by an intensive selection process that assessed, among other things, quality, equipment performance, innovation, sustainability and costs.

Nokia and LG U+ collaborate for 5G Advanced and 6G
The South Korean mobile operator LG U+ has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nokia to cooperate on the next generation of wireless technologies. “The technological collaboration between the two companies in 4G and 5G network technologies will be enhanced in 5G Advanced and 6G,” said Ahn Tae-ho, head of Nokia Korea. “We are expecting that the collaboration will help test and develop future wireless network technology, and would eventually speed up the commercialisation of the service.” Nokia and LG U+ will also collaborate on Open RAN solutions, as well as energy generation technologies that will be used to power wireless sensors.

Japanese operator KDDI faces major network outage
KDDI, Japan’s second-largest mobile operator, has experienced severe network disruptions, leaving nearly 40 million customers without mobile services. The operator said that the outage was due to an “equipment failure” that occurred when staff were replacing a router for its core network as part of regular maintenance. KDDI reported that a high volume of traffic occurred while this issue was being resolved, which further negatively impacted service quality for customers. During the outage, the Japanese operator urged customers to use landlines and public phones to access emergency calls.

Vodafone and Google team up to launch AI Booster
Vodafone has introduced AI Booster, an artificial intelligence platform based on new Google technology. AI Booster is a new unified machine learning (ML) system that has been developed using Google Cloud Platform’s cloud-native, serverless Vertex AI capabilities. The AI Booster platform will use the latest Google technology to enable the next generation of AI use cases, such as optimizing customer experiences, customer loyalty, and product recommendations. The platform has been in development for 18 months and is part of a broader relationship between Vodafone and Google Cloud.
