In a groundbreaking revelation, Twitter owner Elon Musk took to his Twitter account today to announce a significant transformation for the social media giant. Musk’s latest announcement sparked immense curiosity and excitement as he revealed that Twitter will soon bid farewell to its iconic name and adopt a one-letter moniker – “X.”

Late last night, Musk initiated a tweetstorm that lasted for hours, passionately discussing the imminent rebranding of Twitter. His first tweet hinted at the change: “soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” He quickly followed it up with a challenge, stating that if an impressive X logo was posted before the night’s end, the rebranding would go live worldwide the next day.

Throughout the night, Musk tantalized his followers with intermittent references to the upcoming metamorphosis, interspersing his tweets with playful remarks and humorous responses to other users’ queries. He even participated in a Twitter Spaces session titled “No one talk until we summon Elon Musk,” remaining silent for almost an hour before confirming that Twitter’s logo would be replaced, humorously adding, “we’re cutting the Twitter logo from the building with blowtorches.”

The news of the rebranding was also conveyed via an email Musk reportedly sent to Twitter employees during the night. According to Platformer managing editor Zoe Schiffer, Musk mentioned that the company would henceforth be known as X, and intriguingly hinted that it might be his final email from a Twitter address.

As the anticipation grew, Musk finally shed light on the new X logo. He pinned a GIF shared by Twitter user Sawyer Merritt, which was originally designed for his discontinued podcast. Musk expressed his fondness for the “minimalist art deco” logo but hinted that further refinements might be made in the future. Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino also joined in the excitement, enthusiastically sharing the new logo and expressing her enthusiasm with the words, “X is here! Let’s do this.” Notably, the X logo has already taken center stage as Musk’s profile picture.

While the change has been met with enthusiasm from many of Musk’s followers, long-time users of Twitter have expressed mixed feelings. Marques Brownlee, a user since 2009, boldly stated that he would continue to refer to the platform as Twitter, to which Musk playfully responded, “Not for long.”

The letter “X” holds a special significance in Musk’s ventures, having been incorporated into the names of various companies and products he’s been involved with over the years. From X.com, the original name of Paypal, to SpaceX, the Tesla SUV, and X.Ai, Musk has consistently embraced the enigmatic letter. His vision for Twitter is to transform it into “X, the everything app,” and this rebranding marks a crucial step towards realizing that vision.

With the revelation of “X” as the new identity for Twitter, Musk has ushered in a new era for the platform, redefining its essence and signaling further changes on the horizon. As the Twitter community eagerly awaits the global debut of “X,” the world is brimming with anticipation about what this new chapter holds for the social media landscape.
