DE-CIX, the world’s leading operator of Internet Exchanges (IXs), has unveiled its plans to establish PT DE-CIX Indonesia, a joint venture with PT IDMarco Digital Solusi, a subsidiary of the Salim Group. This initiative marks a significant move for DE-CIX, as it ventures into Indonesia, the largest population and fastest-growing economy in Southeast Asia.
Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, stated, “Indonesia is the next logical step for DE-CIX in the region. Our integrated solution supports content and traffic localization in the ASEAN region. With the arrival of DE-CIX Apollon in Jakarta, all networks in Indonesia are invited to take advantage of DE-CIX’s best-in-class platform.”
The company’s distributed IX will be established across multiple data centers in Jakarta, utilizing the award-winning DE-CIX Apollon platform. The new DE-CIX Jakarta will be interconnected with the existing DE-CIX ecosystem in Southeast Asia, spanning six metro markets: Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Brunei, and Manila. This interconnected network will provide seamless connections, top-quality interconnection services, and cost-effective peering options across Southeast Asia for wholesale and enterprise requirements.
DE-CIX Jakarta will be directly linked to DE-CIX Singapore, incorporating it into the Southeast Asian interconnection ecosystem. This move will offer unparalleled interconnection for network providers, cloud service providers, and enterprises, backed by industry-leading service level agreements (SLAs). The platform will also feature advanced security measures like DE-CIX’s blackholing services and in-depth statistical data to help participants better understand their traffic patterns.
Thomas Dragono, Director of IDMarco Digital, expressed excitement over the potential of the world-class Internet Exchange, stating, “With the presence of this world-class Internet Exchange, we can accelerate the realization of better Internet quality for Indonesia. We are witnessing a new history being written.”
Indonesia’s thriving digital landscape, with close to 280 million people, has experienced substantial growth in Internet penetration over the past few years. The country has 2,492 registered start-ups, nine of which are unicorns, solidifying its position as the 6th largest start-up hub globally. Internet penetration has reached close to 220 million people, approximately 78% of the population. The country boasts close to 1,000 independent networks, and its ICT sector is experiencing impressive revenue growth, with over 10% in the past year.
As DE-CIX sets its sights on Indonesia, the country’s promising digital landscape and DE-CIX’s cutting-edge Internet Exchange technology are expected to elevate the quality of Internet services for Indonesian end-users and fuel further growth in the region’s IT spending.
