Samsung Electronics has officially revealed the first 5G smartphone in its mid-range Galaxy A series. The announcement comes just a few weeks after launching the company’s flagship Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy Note 10 5G devices. The new Galaxy A90 with 5G connectivity offers near flagship-grade hardware and includes some impressive features like Samsung DeX support, “Desktop Experience” software for mirroring the phone’s screen and apps on a PC or TV, and Game Booster for enhanced gaming performance.

DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT and Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said, “We’re excited about the success of the Galaxy A Series – a generation of smartphones built for the new Era of Live that focuses on essential features people want the most, including a high-quality camera, long-lasting battery and immersive display. Samsung has worked tirelessly with our partners in the 5G ecosystem to bring 5G to as many people as possible, and now we are offering 5G connectivity across the entire Galaxy smartphone portfolio, giving more people high speed access and connected experiences.”

In a statement, the South Korean tech giant said that the hyper-connected 5G network makes  security a more important consideration than ever before. Therefore, to ensure the ultimate protection, the Galaxy A90 5G is secured by the company’s defense-grade mobile security solution, Samsung Knox. Furthermore, the A90 5G is equipped with the Snapdragon 855 5G Mobile Platform, thus offering transformative mobile experiences, from superior 5G-connectivity to enhanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm Incorporated, said, “We are proud of our long-standing partnership with Samsung to bring the high-powered speed and performance of 5G to as many people as possible through the most advanced platform yet, the flagship Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. Samsung’s innovative line of Galaxy devices paired with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and Qualcomm® RF-Front-End solutions will support an entirely new 5G experience that enables people to work faster and play harder, no matter where they are.”

In terms of other specifications, the Galaxy A90 5G smartphone runs on Android Pie and has 128 GB of storage. The 6 GB RAM option also comes with a microSD card slot, allowing storage expansion by up to 512 GB. The phone features a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop-style notch on top and an in-display fingerprint sensor. There is also a 4,500 mAh battery included, with support for 25 W fast charging.
