SK Telecom, in collaboration with Intel, has made a groundbreaking advancement in core network technology, promising a significant reduction in communication delays and an enhancement in service efficiency, pivotal for the upcoming 6G networks. The innovation could slash communication latency by as much as 70% and boost service efficiency by approximately 33%, marking a significant leap forward in network performance.

This development addresses the increasing complexity within core network technology, which has seen a surge in the systems and functions needed to deliver diverse services. Such complexity often leads to network congestion and slower communication speeds. However, by introducing a novel approach known as Inline Service Mesh, which leverages Intel Xeon processors equipped with AI capabilities, SK Telecom and Intel aim to streamline these processes. This technology enables a more efficient communication flow within the network by minimizing latency between functions without the need for proxies.

The integration of AI into the core network is set to broaden, thanks to this advancement, facilitating a more agile and intelligent network infrastructure. This is especially crucial for the 6G core architecture, which demands greater flexibility, safety, and the capability to offer consistent AI service quality and technologies.

Yu Takki, Vice President and Head of Infra Tech at SKT, highlighted the company’s ongoing collaboration with Intel as a cornerstone for securing a leading position in 6G technology. Their collective efforts are focused on continuous research and the eventual commercialization of AI-based 6G Core Architecture.

Intel’s Dan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President of the Network and Edge Solutions Group, also emphasized the significance of their joint R&D efforts. These endeavors aim to provide Communications Service Providers globally with innovative solutions that enhance both performance and efficiency, essential for the core networks of the future.

As the 6G era approaches, with its standards still in the formulation stage, initiatives like these by SK Telecom and Intel are crucial for shaping the technological foundation of next-generation networks.
