In a groundbreaking collaboration, Hexa Capital Consultancy has entered a partnership with Equinix to boost connectivity between the Asia-Pacific region and the United States. This effort aims to address the growing digital demands of businesses by leveraging the Malaysia-U.S. (MYUS) cable. Owning this cable, Hexa ensures its integration with Equinix’s data centers in strategic locations across Malaysia, Indonesia, and the United States.
The Southeast Asia digital market is booming. With over 650 million people driving change, this region is rich with opportunities for global business expansion. Yet, unlocking this potential hinges largely on solid connectivity, especially with the United States. The MYUS cable introduces a direct, high-capacity fibre optic connection linking Malaysia to the U.S., a first of its kind. This connection extends from Malaysian Peninsula near Sedili, Johor, to Guam, and onward to Florence, Oregon. Plans are underway to further expand the network reach to places like Balikpapan and Hawaii.
Equinix, renowned for its expansive global network, plays a pivotal role in this initiative. Their data centers cluster in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Jakarta, along with major U.S. hubs such as Seattle, Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles. Businesses utilizing the MYUS cable can tap into a massive ecosystem of over 10,000 companies globally. This is facilitated by Equinix’s well-positioned data centers.
Hexa’s commitment goes further with collaboration with an Indonesian partner to establish ideal landing sites. Targeted regions include Batam and Jakarta, with the Jakarta landing being sited at Tanjung Pakis. This approach aims to boost regional accessibility and streamline connectivity.
The Florence, Oregon landing serves as a key point in the Pacific Northwest. It will aggregate and distribute traffic north to Seattle and south to key U.S. cities, facilitating broader connectivity. According to Dr Abang Azhari Hadari, Founder and CEO of Hexa, “The MYUS Cable is being designed specifically to provide trusted and reliable direct fibre connectivity for the very largest of global hyperscalers, cloud and content services providers as well as for major telecom carriers.”
Equinix’s subsea connected data centers are integral to reducing costs and enhancing global connectivity. Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director, Malaysia, Equinix, highlighted, “At Equinix, we recognise the critical role that subsea cables play in today’s interconnected global economy. We are proud to leverage our extensive expertise and experience in hosting subsea cables to support the MYUS cable project.”
