Ooredoo Qatar has chosen Nokia to modernize its core network, utilizing Nokia’s comprehensive, cloud-native core solutions. This selection includes core components such as subscriber management, voice and packet core capabilities. These components enable technologies like network slicing, AI, and machine learning integration to improve both network performance and user experience.
Raghav Sahgal, President of Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, emphasized how this partnership facilitates low-latency use cases required for industrial automation. Additionally, the integration will support other high-performance network features. It also introduces Nokia’s Data Center Fabric solution, scaling data centers more effectively while reducing energy consumption.
The strategic move seeks to open new revenue avenues for Ooredoo Qatar. Sahgal suggests that potential revenue lies within applications tailored for enterprises and consumers. Creating a sophisticated cloud-native infrastructure is essential. This framework lets Ooredoo link networks to a broader ecosystem, driving those revenue opportunities.
Key to achieving this is the establishment of a cloud-native core and exposing the network. This step reduces friction between the network and its ecosystem, facilitating application development and integration. Automation also plays a critical role, as Nokia emphasizes the need for intent-driven networks, translating user needs into network outputs efficiently.
Automation and AI are pivotal in this transformation. Nokia is investing heavily in these areas to handle increasing data volumes effectively. Sahgal explains that AI integration is critical because other methods cannot cope with the data’s scale and complexity.
For Ooredoo, enhancing customer experience forms a core objective. Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al-Thani, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar, reiterates, “Our vision is about enriching people’s digital lives.” Collaborating with Nokia aligns with their aim to deliver new digital capabilities and business models.
