Comcast, in collaboration with the Indiana Broadband Office (IBO) and the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs (OCRA), is launching a project to deliver enhanced Internet services to Miami County, Indiana. The latest round of investment from the Next Level Connections broadband grant program will provide over 2,200 residents and businesses with faster, more reliable Internet access.
This initiative supports Comcast’s goal to expand high-speed Internet access across underserved communities in Indiana. Jim Tidd, Miami County Economic Developer, emphasized the importance of this development by stating, “Access to high-speed Internet isn’t something we take lightly—we’re future-proofing Miami County’s economy and ensuring residents and businesses have access to the digital opportunities of tomorrow.”
This development includes pre-construction activities and plans to offer the full range of Xfinity and Comcast Business services. Residents and businesses will benefit from features such as cybersecurity, free streaming devices, and competitive Internet plans. Joni Hart, Vice President of Government Affairs for Comcast Indiana, commented on the project, highlighting how it aims to close the digital divide, better preparing rural areas for economic opportunities and access to essential online services like e-learning and healthcare.
Comcast offers a notable advantage through its Xfinity brand. Households can access various services such as Internet, video, mobile, voice, and home security with flexible plans. Participants in public assistance programs can benefit from the Internet Essentials program, aimed at providing affordable access. Since 2011, this program has connected more than 772,000 Indiana residents to the Internet.
For commercial entities, Comcast Business provides a wide array of connectivity and communication solutions, recognized for scalable and flexible options. As one of the fastest-growing providers of Ethernet services, Comcast Business continues to support organizations in achieving their objectives.
Comcast’s infrastructure in Indiana is extensive, with more than 49,000 miles of fiber network offering high-speed Internet to residences and businesses along with over 65,500 WiFi hotspots statewide. The company invested over $20 billion nationwide in the last five years to enhance its network, including nearly $600 million in Indiana alone in the past three years.
