Nokia has introduced its latest 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) device, the FastMile Gateway 4, which features Wi-Fi 7 technology and promises speeds of up to 4Gbps. Designed for easy self-installation, the gateway includes high-gain antennas and dual-band Wi-Fi 7, enhancing speed, coverage, and efficiency.
The device supports four-carrier aggregation and up to 300MHz of bandwidth, with 8RX and 3TX capabilities for improved spectrum efficiency. Wi-Fi 7’s multi-link operation (MLO) enables simultaneous data transmission across multiple frequency bands, contributing to the gateway’s high-speed performance. Nokia’s Corteca software powers the device, offering cloud-based Wi-Fi optimization and management based on open industry standards. A mobile app guides users to the optimal placement for installation.
Dirk Verhaegen, General Manager of Broadband Devices at Nokia, emphasized that the company’s extensive FWA portfolio allows operators to deliver fast and reliable broadband to diverse customer needs. He highlighted the FastMile Gateway 4 as a powerful addition to Nokia’s lineup.
Shiv Putcha, Director for Research and Consulting at GSMA Intelligence, noted the success of FWA in expanding broadband access globally. He pointed out that Nokia’s broad range of FastMile products, combined with Corteca’s management capabilities, equips operators to meet varying consumer demands.
The FWA market has grown significantly in recent years. Dell’Oro recently revised its 2023-2027 revenue forecast for FWA equipment upward by 17%, citing ease of deployment and the increasing availability of 4G LTE and 5G Sub-6GHz networks as key drivers of adoption in both residential and business settings.
