In a strategic move to enhance AI services tailored to the Southeast Asian market, Malaysian telecommunications operator CelcomDigi teams up with South Korean tech leader SK Telecom. This partnership, cemented through a memorandum of understanding, aims to bring cutting-edge AI solutions to Malaysia.

The agreement invites both companies to share expertise and collaborate on AI applications specifically designed for the Malaysian market. This initiative not only targets the deployment of such solutions but also looks at expanding business opportunities in AI’s commercial landscape.

Initially, CelcomDigi plans to roll out AI applications internally before expanding them for broader commercial use. CelcomDigi CEO Idham Nawawi has expressed his ambitions for the company to emerge as a prominent AI player in the Malaysian market: “We have the capabilities, we connect more than 20 million users on our network, we have solid infrastructure, we are building the facilities, and this is a good foundation for us to move to the space of AI.”

To showcase its commitment to AI innovation, CelcomDigi launched the AI Experience Centre in July. The center features AI-driven innovations from around 40 global tech firms, including SK Telecom, and various local collaborators. Additionally, both CelcomDigi and SK Telecom have initiated projects in the metaverse sector following a previous agreement earlier in 2023.

In another noteworthy venture, SK Telecom recently revamped its AI service named “A.,” pronounced “A-DoT.” This overhaul aims to transform the app into a more comprehensive AI personal assistant. Among its upgrades, the service now integrates improved natural conversation capabilities driven by a large language model and enhanced daily management functions using multi-agent systems.

The enhanced application “A.” integrates daily features like calendar, tasks, and schedules, all managed via voice commands. This feature allows users to interact more naturally and receive personalized suggestions considering their routine and preferences.

Users can engage with multiple multi-agent systems, each equipped with unique AI capabilities. The flexibility enables users to compare responses from varying models, catering to diverse user demands. With these robust updates, SK Telecom strengthens its commitment to becoming a global AI powerhouse through innovation and international partnerships, further enriching the user experience in the telecom sector.
