French telecom giant SFR has introduced two 5G slicing services tailored for enterprise clients. These specialized connectivity solutions operate on 5G Standalone (SA) technology in the 3.5 GHz range. The services, “privileged access service” and “tailor-made slicing service,” demonstrate once again SFR’s pioneering approach in France’s telecom landscape.
Historically, SFR was the first to launch 5G in France in 2020 and further advanced the frontier by activating and slicing its 5G SA network in real conditions by the end of 2023. Now, they continue their innovation streak by offering new slice-services to the business sector, named “Slice Enterprise” and “Slice More”.
The “privileged access service” focuses on seamless data transport and enhanced data exchange security. In contrast, the “tailor-made slicing service” is designed to provide dedicated spectrum and bandwidth for companies with critical real-time requirements. Both services require the use of 5G SA devices and SIM cards.
The fundamental shift that 5G SA brings to the table lies in its ability to offer distinct mobile connectivity through slicing. This technique involves allocating specific resources for each customer, which can then be independently managed, leading to enhanced quality of service and efficient spectrum utilization.
Emmanuel Pugliesi, executive director at SFR Business, stated, “With 5G SA, we enable SFR’s corporate clients to take advantage of the best of 5G technology. SFR Business offers tailor-made connectivity which represents a unique opportunity for our customers to rethink their services and invent new uses.”
The impact of these services can be significant for businesses. On one hand, they have the opportunity to secure and optimize their network performance according to specific needs, simultaneously enhancing operational efficiency. On the other hand, the need for compatible devices and infrastructure can be a hurdle for some enterprises initially.
Nonetheless, SFR steadily expands its 5G network, covering 80% of the French population, beginning with extensive urban areas, and operating through approximately 9,200 sites. This substantial network expansion further cements SFR’s position as a leader in deploying cutting-edge connectivity solutions for enterprise clients across France.
