LG Uplus launches preliminary 5G roaming services in China
South Korean mobile carrier LG UPlus is rolling out its 5G roaming service in China in partnership with China Unicom, a state-run telecom operator. According to the statement, LG Uplus teamed up with China Unicom for the 5G roaming service in April and tested out own services in China from June. The preliminary service was launched after the two companies completed linking their networks on August 16. LG Uplus said its 5G roaming service is currently available only on the LG V50 ThinQ smartphone, but soon it will be expanded to Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10 users with software upgrades.

Oracle strikes deal to provide cloud support for VMware workloads
Oracle and VMware have announced a deal resolving their bitter dispute over how Oracle provides technical support for VMware users. The deal will make it easier for VMware customers to move their workloads to Oracle’s cloud computing service. Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Google have already made deals to provide technical support to VMware customers. Oracle has designed a system to allow joint customers to move VMware-based computing work to its cloud without reworking the code.

Tata Communications to offer Cisco Webex Solutions
Tata Communications and Cisco join hands to provide enterprises with a fully managed, multi-channel, intelligent and cloud-based Cisco Webex Contact Center solution. This solution is a managed platform with global reach, which is enabled by Tata Communications’ global digital infrastructure and managed services expertise. According to Tata Communications, the new service will provide contact centre users with a seamless user experience across up to 150 countries. Furthermore, the solution will allow customer service managers to empower agents with AI and contextual capabilities, thus lowering repetitive tasks and enhancing workforce productivity.

Apple pours another $250 million into iPhone glass supplier Corning
Apple is investing an additional $250 million into Corning Incorporated, the manufacturer that supplies precision glass used in iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches. Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund has already provided $200 million to Corning in 2017. “The combined investment supports Corning’s research and development into state-of-the-art glass processes, equipment and materials integral to the delivery of next-generation consumer devices,” said Apple in its press release.

Amazon Web Services creates 500 jobs in Germany
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has opened a new office in Munich that will demonstrate what cloud computing can do for potential customers in one of the largest economies in Europe. For the demonstration, AWS set up a Digital Builders showroom in partnership with Boston Consulting Group. The company is also establishing an Industrial Software showcase with Siemens to illustrate its cloud computing support for manufacturing automation. AWS has created 500 jobs in Germany, and they are part of 2800 already announced by Amazon in the country.
