GSMA creates largest IoT community in APAC

The GSMA has announced the expansion of its Asia-Pacific IoT Partnership Programme to 31 mobile operators across 15 countries. According to GSMA Intelligence, the Asia Pacific region (APAC) has the largest IoT market in the world and is expected to reach 11 billion connections by 2025 and be worth $386 billion. The programme brings together operators and partners including developers, manufacturers and system integrators, to share best practice, discuss challenges and review progress on the development of IoT across APAC.

Nokia brings 5G lab to Europe

Nokia has opened a new lab at its global headquarters in Espoo, Finland, that will help demonstrate the full range of its 5G equipment, software and services. The “5G Future X Lab” will enable telecom operators, enterprises and infrastructure providers “to learn and understand the techno-economic power of a 5G end-to-end network to better serve their customers and unleash new value.” The Lab will also serve as an innovation platform for Nokia’s internal research, prototype development and testing.

Everything Amazon announced at its Alexa event today

At its Alexa event, Amazon has unveiled a whole new lineup of hardware devices, including new Echo smart speakers and screens, as well as other smart home and connected devices from its brands Ring and Eero. The company has expanded its Echo range into wearables with smart glasses and a smart ring. Moreover, Amazon has introduced the next generation of its Eero router, which allows you to turn off or pause Wi-Fi using voice commands. These features will later come to other routers from Asus, TP-Link, Linksys, and Arris via an API.

Microsoft Infuses Dynamics 365 with AI Insights

Microsoft has announced new applications to its Dynamics 365 portfolio as part of its “Wave 2” rollout. The company said the new additions are built on various Microsoft AI technologies and the tightly integrated capabilities, when powered by Azure AI, can make AI a reality for businesses today. The new features extend Dynamics 365 Customer Insights from business-to-consumer (B2C) to business-to-business (B2B) applications to help organizations track leads and contacts to buying groups and accounts.

NYC and Salt Lake City to be 5G smart city innovation zones

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has named Salt Lake City and New York City as its first two innovation zones to test new 5G services. The FCC said it wants to experiment with advanced wireless communications and network research and is establishing a process to ensure new innovators can have access to this testing resource while protecting current, licensed users. The agency is collaborating with the National Science Foundation (NSF), which runs a Platform for Advanced Wireless Research.
