This setup is aimed at training and rolling out expansive foundation models for clinical applications encompassing pathology, drug discovery, and precision medicine.
This new AI-based center intends to enhance digital pathology by equipping researchers and clinicians with innovative tools for analyzing and processing medical data. This effort aligns with Mayo Clinic’s digital transformation strategy “Bold. Forward”, designed to drive change in healthcare.
The clinic’s use of Nvidia’s infrastructure marks a leap forward for the medical research industry. The AI system significantly accelerates the processing of high-resolution pathology slides, reducing analysis time from weeks to days. One standout project is the development of the Atlas model in collaboration with Aignostics. This model, trained on 1.2 million histopathology images, is aimed at improving accuracy in clinical diagnosis and reducing administrative workloads for doctors.
Jim Rogers, chief executive for digital pathology at Mayo Clinic, emphasized the enhanced compute power’s benefit in transforming healthcare. He mentions how AI solutions can enable clinicians to devote more time to patient care while cultivating new commercial relations.

They have developed AI tools in partnership with firms like UK’s Ultromics which detects cardiac amyloidosis.
