CallTower delivers Native Microsoft Teams Cloud Contact Center
CallTower, a global provider of cloud-based, business-class unified communications and collaboration solutions, announced that it is offering a Native Microsoft Teams Cloud contact center through its strategic partner Five9. The integration of Five9 and Microsoft Teams enhances the customer experience by leveraging the collaboration capabilities of the Teams platform and integrating it into the Five9 Intelligent Cloud Contact Center solution. Cellnex wants to acquire Hutchison towers
The Spanish operator Cellnex is eyeing the acquisition of CK Hutchison’s entire European tower portfolio for over $10 billion. It was first reported that CK Hutchison was looking to sell a smaller stake in its European tower unit back in July, but Cellnex plans to buy the whole package of around 28,500 masts. Hutchison, being the company behind a large number of telecoms operators and infrastructure worldwide, wants to raise cash fast to reduce debt and to help quickly fund the rollout of costly 5G services. Cellnex, meanwhile, takes the opposite view: tower asset banking is an effective long-term investment.

Deutsche Telekom plans to sell off a group of patents
Deutsche Telekom has announced plans to narrow its patent portfolio by selling off a group of patents related to vehicle navigation technology as part of a strategy to simplify its IP portfolio and focus on areas more consistent with its main business. The operator said it would sell the intellectual property through a specialized online auction, but did not disclose the amount it expects to collect. Sales are expected to begin December with a group of 21 patents covering 168 sets of IP. DT added that the sale would help strengthen its portfolio and provide an opportunity to focus on protecting and the company’s key patents and technologies.

Telefonica and Allianz to deploy FTTH in Germany
Telefonica and Allianz have announced a combined project for the roll-out of fiber to the home (FTTH) in Germany and plan to invest $5.8 billion in this initiative. The companies will operate as wholesale operators and deploy local fiber networks in small coverage spaces in rural and semi-rural areas of Germany. In addition, they will provide FTTH wholesale access to all telecommunications service providers. The joint venture envisages that the investments will come from a variety of funding sources: shareholder contributions, long-term subordinated loans, and external financing without recourse to shareholders.

BT to use Ericsson’s RAN
BT has announced that it has signed an agreement with Ericsson to upgrade the company’s radio antennas, base stations and other equipment to support a 5G network. Under the deal, Ericsson’s equipment will handle about 50% of BT 5G’s radio access network (RAN) traffic, while the other half will be Nokia’s responsibility. It is common for mobile network providers to use two RAN providers, in case problems occur in one of the systems. BT is currently using Ericsson equipment according to a deal that was signed earlier this year. Ericsson will also help upgrade BT’s 2G/4G network.
