Vodafone is set to strengthen its cloud offerings in Germany through a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This partnership will enhance Vodafone’s sovereign cloud services targeted at enterprises and public sector organizations in Germany. Under the agreement, Vodafone will extend its cloud infrastructure services while ensuring all data remains stored and processed within the European Union.

This move aligns with Europe’s stringent requirements for data sovereignty and residency, providing an integrated, sovereign solution from technical integration to operational support. The aim is to support organizations in their transition to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a feature-rich, independently operated cloud solution catered specifically to European governments and businesses.

Building on the recent acquisition of Skaylink, a renowned provider of cloud service solutions, Vodafone is in a strong position to deliver expert advice and support to organizations during their migration. Skaylink’s AWS-certified cloud experts will play a crucial role in advising on security and operational efficiency.

The partnership with AWS marks a significant stride for Vodafone, offering a wide array of services complemented by a robust portfolio that includes security solutions like software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN), Security Operations Centre (SOC) services, and firewalls. This diverse range aims to safeguard corporate data, networks, and mobile devices against cyber threats.

Notably, the AWS European Sovereign Cloud operates entirely within the EU, subject to rigorous German and European standards. This ensures low-latency connectivity and access to AWS’s wide range of solutions, including the state-of-the-art AWS Nitro System. The infrastructure is fully segregated from other regions, further ensuring data security and compliance with local regulations.

Hagen Rickmann, Director of Vodafone Business EU Markets and Türkiye, emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating, “A strong European economy needs a strong European cloud. Our continued collaboration with AWS allows us to deliver just that to our business customers and public authorities.”

Stéphane Israël, Managing Director of AWS European Sovereign Cloud, added that the partnership leverages Vodafone’s extensive expertise combined with AWS’s performance to encourage secure innovation. This collaboration comes as a vital step in supporting Germany’s digital ambitions while ensuring full control over data and the flexibility to choose partners according to needs.

Overall, this endeavor highlights Vodafone’s and AWS’s commitment to advancing cloud infrastructure while adhering to European data protection laws, setting a benchmark in secure digital innovation across the region.
