Orange has finalized the acquisition of the remaining 50% shares in MasOrange from its joint venture partner, Lorca, in Spain. This strategic move now cements Orange’s sole ownership, allowing it to fully consolidate MasOrange’s results into its financial records. The acquisition, valued at €4.25 billion, was finalized after gaining necessary approvals, including from the European Commission.
This acquisition marks a crucial step in Orange’s “Trust the Future” plan, focusing on strengthening its operational presence in Spain. Christel Heydemann, CEO of Orange, acknowledged the deal as a pivotal moment in their Spanish operations. By gaining complete control, Orange aims to leverage increased agility and strategic synergies for faster operations.
Meinrad Spenger, CEO of MasOrange, emphasized the strengthened foundation the acquisition creates for growing their market momentum. With MasOrange’s full integration into the Orange group, there will be greater investment capacity and innovation. This development promises enhanced service quality and innovative offerings for Spanish consumers, businesses, and public administrations, leveraging the strengths of Orange’s global infrastructure.
Meinrad Spenger is set to join Orange’s Executive Committee, highlighting the strategic significance of Spain in Orange’s operational framework. MasOrange is recognized as the leading operator by customer base in Spain, boasting 26 million mobile and 7.1 million fixed broadband customers by the first quarter of 2026. Their topnotch fiber and 5G infrastructure enable high-quality services throughout the country.
Orange plans to refinance MasOrange’s financial obligations progressively. This acquisition solidifies Orange’s competitive position in Spain and underscores its commitment to delivering superior telecommunications services in Europe.
