The rise of AI agents is pushing mobile networks toward a major redesign. Huawei now wants to prepare operators for that shift with SingleRAN 22.1, its latest wireless software release.
The company says the platform targets the “Agentverse”. This means a connected world of autonomous digital agents. These agents will exchange data, make decisions, and support users in real time.
Forecasts show why operators are paying attention. IDC expects more than one billion active AI agents by 2029. Huawei’s own Intelligent World 2035 report goes much further. It predicts 900 billion AI agents worldwide, mostly in mobile scenarios.
However, this growth brings pressure to radio networks. Traditional mobile traffic mainly flows down to users. AI agents require heavier uplink traffic. Uplink means data sent from devices back to the network.
That change matters for video, sensors, enterprise tools, and connected machines. Networks must support faster uploads, lower delay, and more predictable service. Best-effort mobile connectivity will not meet every future demand.
SingleRAN 22.1 addresses this through six main software capabilities. GigaUplink improves upload performance using smarter power control and antenna coordination. Huawei says field trials showed uplink throughput gains between 24% and 33%.
Meanwhile, GigaBand helps operators use existing 4G and 5G spectrum more efficiently. It dynamically shares resources between LTE and 5G New Radio. Huawei claims this can improve spectrum efficiency by 20%.
The update also includes iBeam 3.0 for better downlink performance. It improves beam accuracy and interference control during busy network periods. In Saudi Arabia, Huawei reported a 15% downlink gain through software only.
Another feature, IDEA, focuses on service differentiation. It can assign resources based on application needs. For example, gaming needs low latency. Live streaming needs stronger uplink. Real-time business tools need stability.
Energy use also remains central to the package. Huawei’s “0 Bit 0 Watt 0 Loss” feature lets equipment sleep during low demand. It then wakes quickly when traffic rises. This approach could reduce power costs across dense networks.
Finally, RANSpirit adds AI-driven network operations. It uses a telecom AI model and digital twin. In simple terms, it creates a virtual network copy. Engineers can then automate checks, adjustments, and problem solving.
These features could help operators handle future traffic patterns more efficiently. Yet adoption will require planning, testing, and investment. Operators must also align new software with existing hardware, spectrum, and service goals.
Huawei says the release also supports its next-generation UBBPi baseband boards. Baseband boards process radio signals inside mobile network equipment. This support gives operators a hardware path for future upgrades.

Huawei says SingleRAN 22.1 already runs at 35 operator sites across 23 countries. The company expects more than 100 operators to complete deployments by year-end.
