Ekinops, a distinguished player in optical transport and network access, recently unveiled that Deutsche Glasfaser chose its Ekinops360 optical transport platform in order to renew and unify its optical transport network throughout Germany. This landmark decision marks a significant stride in Deutsche Glasfaser’s growth trajectory.

A prominent service provider in Germany, Deutsche Glasfaser caters to nearly 1,800 municipalities and over 1.2 million households. With the company adding around 40,000 new homes passed monthly, it is pursuing dramatic growth organically. Noting the requirement for a unified network system to streamline its operations, Deutsche Glasfaser was in the market for a new, flexible optical transport system. The goal was a solution that not only promises automation in service provisioning and hastens its market entry, but is also cost-effective in terms of capital and operations as the company scales.

Following meticulous consideration of multiple competitive tenders, Deutsche Glasfaser named Ekinops as the sole vendor for rolling out the Ekinops360 portfolio across its optical transport network. This includes the Core, Aggregation, and Central Office components. The deployment of the Ekinops’ FlexRate™ 100G to 400G coherent solutions, endowed with its advanced colorless, gridless ROADM architecture, are also part of the plan. The setup is fortified by the Celestis NMS management system, ensuring flexibility and seamless support for Alien wavelength services. To bring capacity as close as possible to the customer, Ekinops ETR solutions are being installed in central offices. This further supports the implementation of 10Gbps XGS-PON access technology as a standard across the Deutsche Glasfaser network.

The Chief Operating Officer of Deutsche Glasfaser, Pascal Koster, reflects on their pioneering role in fiber rollout in Germany, remarking that they have consistently employed advanced technology in their network. “The Ekinops360 gives us the ability to streamline our operations with a single end-to-end system that meets our ambitions to be even more efficient and responsive.”

Hailing Deutsche Glasfaser as an innovative service provider deeply committed to enhancing Germany’s digital capabilities, Frank Dedobbeleer, Ekinops’ Chief Revenue Officer for EMEA & APAC, shared his views. He confirmed that the Ekinops360 provides a robust technological and economic foundation for Deutsche Glasfaser to realize its project goals. As a strategic partner, he expressed Ekinops’ satisfaction in supporting Deutsche Glasfaser.
