In major cities, Telefónica, however, surpassed Vodafone in terms of the 5G share and registered a proud Number 1 spot in Munich, its headquarters.

Switching gears to Austria, the top three operators this year included Magenta, A1, and Hutchinson 3. Notably, Magenta scored big in the walk tests in major cities. While train connection tests exposed areas of potential advancement, Austrian connections on roads received high marks for reliability during car journeys. The close competition concluded with Magenta emerging victorious, marking a six-year winning streak for the operator and catapulting it into the global Top 5 Club.

Turning towards Switzerland, a similar trend of improvements was observed. Swisscom secured the top echelon, marking its sixth consecutive win in the test. Noteworthy is Salt’s debut qualification for the “outstanding” grade, though it was suggested that there lies potential for improvement. Sunrise, however, deserves special recognition for maintaining an “outstanding” standard for eight consecutive years.

“Our test is a result of a value-based initiative, and the responsibility we as an industry undertake to create a cleaner and more sustainable future,” said Hakan Ekmen, Global Networks Lead, Comms Industry and concurrently CEO at Umlaut. He further adds that the significant improvements observed across the board are a testament to the commitment of technological advancement in the industry.
