Cummins Partners with Verizon for Advanced Wireless Networks

Cummins Inc, a global leader in manufacturing heavy-duty truck engines, has sealed a groundbreaking deal with Verizon Business to introduce cutting-edge wireless networks at its Jamestown Engine Plant (JEP) in Lakewood, NY. The collaboration entails the deployment of Verizon’s innovative Neutral Host Network alongside a Private 5G Network within the premises of JEP, aiming to cater to both public and private connectivity needs.

With a sprawling industrial space of 1 million square feet indoors, an equal expanse outdoors, and a workforce of 1,500, JEP churns out approximately 500 heavy-duty truck engines daily. The implementation of these advanced networks is set to revolutionize operations, bolstering efficiency and quality.

The Neutral Host Network will facilitate seamless connectivity to major U.S. carriers, enabling employees and visitors to enjoy robust mobile signals throughout the plant. Meanwhile, the Private 5G Network, operating on Verizon’s licensed spectrum, will cater to business-critical applications, ensuring enhanced security and capability.

The significance of this collaboration extends beyond mere connectivity. Cummins envisions leveraging these networks to embrace Industry 4.0 strategies swiftly and reliably. Shawn Hricko, Plant Manager at Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant, expresses excitement over the potential enhancements, anticipating improved communication among team members, data sharing across equipment, and the integration of mobile industrial robots (MIRs).
