EXA Infrastructure, a leading digital infrastructure platform facilitating connections between Europe and North America, has unveiled plans for a significant expansion in North America. The company’s latest move involves the introduction of a new route linking Ashburn and Atlanta, aiming to bolster its infrastructure presence in the region.

Atlanta is increasingly recognized as a pivotal data center hub, experiencing exponential growth as highlighted in the CBRE North America Data Center Trends H2 2023 Report. With a remarkable surge of 211% in data center projects under active construction between H1 and H2 of 2023, Atlanta stands out as the fastest-growing data center market in the US. Major developments are underway, solidifying its position in the industry.

The newly proposed route will traverse the base of the Appalachians, presenting a highly resilient and diverse option compared to existing alternatives. Leveraging the DWDM Flex Ciena system, EXA aims to optimize latency and provide enhanced optionality of up to 400G, catering to evolving connectivity demands.

This expansion aligns with EXA Infrastructure’s strategic investment approach, aiming to broaden its extensive network and offer an array of on-net route combinations for connectivity to burgeoning data center markets both domestically and across the Atlantic. By facilitating ‘on-net’ circuits end-to-end from Atlanta to London, EXA seeks to deliver improved operational efficiency and control for its customers.

Steve Roberts, the Senior Vice President of Strategic Investments and Product Management at EXA Infrastructure, emphasized the significance of this milestone. “This marks a significant step for EXA Infrastructure as we strive to link high-growth data center markets across North America,” Roberts stated. He further highlighted Atlanta’s importance to many of their customers, particularly those within AI-focused industries, underscoring the new route’s ability to address their connectivity requirements to Europe and beyond.

EXA’s expansion efforts in North America extend beyond this latest announcement, with recent unveilings of expanded trans-Atlantic cable routes reflecting the company’s commitment to enhancing global connectivity.
