Skylo and Cubic Enhance Vehicle Connectivity with Satellite Tech

Cubic Telecom, a leader in software-defined vehicle solutions, and Skylo Technologies, known for non-terrestrial network communications, have formed a significant partnership. This collaboration enhances Cubic’s connectivity solutions with Skylo’s global network access. By integrating Skylo’s non-terrestrial network solutions, Cubic can now offer satellite connectivity alongside its existing offerings.

Cubic already connects over 21 million vehicles in 190+ countries. This new collaboration leverages standards-based NB-NTN chipsets, improving satellite connectivity efficiency. Skylo’s satellite network ensures seamless switching between cellular and satellite services. This capability is particularly beneficial in scenarios like location tracking, remote diagnostics, and emergency communications.

A critical focus of the partnership is enhancing emergency communication capabilities. Satellite communications provide unparalleled reliability and coverage. They ensure real-time critical communication, vital for emergency response teams during disaster missions. This integration could significantly impact life-saving efforts.

Cubic’s CEO, Barry Napier, stated, “By integrating Skylo’s NTN capabilities with our software-defined vehicle solutions, we are elevating critical vehicle communications to new heights of energy efficiency, smart technology integration and robust security.” He emphasized the collaboration’s commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability.

To achieve global satellite connectivity, Skylo leverages dedicated licensed mobile satellite service spectrum. This ensures coverage in rural and remote areas without the need for mobile operators to share spectrum assets, which can lead to interference. The use of MSS spectrum allows for consistent coverage, addressing cellular coverage gaps without creating exclusion zones.
