Verizon’s Trusted Connection Elevates Mid-Sized Firms’ Security

Verizon Business has recently launched its ‘zero-trust’ network access service, Trusted Connection, aimed at bolstering security for mid-sized firms. This service is positioned as a pioneering solution in network-native security, facilitating secure access to devices, networks, and cloud applications for authorized users, regardless of their location or whether applications reside on the edge or in the cloud.

The Trusted Connection service integrates a range of security service capabilities, combining zero-trust network access with a cloud secure web gateway, cloud access security broker, and firewall-as-a-service applications. These features are coupled with user or group-specific policy definitions, encrypted network paths, and performance insights, all accessible via a single console. This design simplifies monitoring and controlling access to sensitive data.

Traditionally, companies have relied on securing the perimeter around their networks. However, this new approach secures the individual pathways and access points, providing a single-provider solution for both network services and embedded security that connects to curated software as-a-service providers. As a managed service, it supports multi-location enterprises, including offices, data centers, and hybrid cloud setups.

A statement from Verizon highlights the service’s versatility, noting that it secures connections and endpoints from any device to any digital resource, spanning web/cloud resources, software applications, and private apps. It’s especially advantageous for mid-sized businesses lacking resources or expertise to manage such systems independently, or for those seeking a streamlined approach to security management.

Research by Verizon indicates that 77% of basic web application attacks involve stolen credentials. By enforcing zero-trust access, employing multi-factor authentication, and verifying device security postures, Trusted Connection aims to offer robust protection against these vulnerabilities.

Kyle Malady, CEO at Verizon Business, underscores the importance of a cohesive cybersecurity architecture, stating, “End-to-end security is critical. If a perimeter is breached, bad actors can wreak havoc. Trusted Connection creates a protected environment within the outer walls of security, protecting each specific entry point and pathway that could lead a bad actor to a valuable digital asset.”
