AWS Nvidia GPU Expansion Accelerates Telecom AI Cloud

AWS plans to add two million more Nvidia GPUs across its global cloud infrastructure. The deployment will run between 2027 and 2028. It marks a major expansion of their 16-year technology partnership.

The move follows an earlier AWS plan to add over one million Nvidia GPUs from 2026. Demand has now moved beyond those expectations. Both companies say customers need far more computing power for advanced AI services.

For telecoms, this scale matters. Operators increasingly depend on cloud platforms for automation, analytics, security, and edge applications. More GPU capacity could help carriers test and deploy AI tools faster. It could also support smarter network operations and better customer service systems.

The partnership now covers more than graphics processors. AWS and Nvidia will work across CPUs, networking, AI models, data processing, and robotics. They also plan to bring Nvidia Vera CPUs to AWS. These chips support AI agents that run code, process data, and coordinate tasks.

This could make cloud-based AI easier to package for enterprises. It may also give service providers stronger foundations for managed AI offerings. However, it increases reliance on a small group of infrastructure suppliers. That creates strategic questions for operators and governments.

Energy demand will also attract scrutiny. Millions of GPUs require large data centres, strong cooling, and resilient power supplies. Cloud providers must prove that expansion matches sustainability commitments. Regulators may also examine how concentrated AI infrastructure becomes.

The partners will also target US government workloads. AWS and Nvidia plan AI factories for federal agencies. These facilities will include 100,000 Nvidia GPUs. They will run on AWS infrastructure designed for highly classified national-security workloads.

Meanwhile, Jensen Huang, Nvidia founder and CEO, said: “Nvidia and AWS have built one of the great growth engines of the AI era, and demand is running ahead of every forecast.

“For 16 years, we have scaled Nvidia computing in the cloud together. Now we are expanding our partnership across the full stack- GPUs, CPUs, networking, open models and software- to make agentic and physical AI real at an unprecedented pace and scale that only AWS and Nvidia can deliver. This expansion reflects customers’ demand for Nvidia’s platform on AWS.”

The announcement underlines one clear trend. AI infrastructure has become central to cloud strategy and telecom transformation. The winners will combine capacity, security, efficiency, and flexible deployment models. For operators, the opportunity is large, but careful supplier planning remains essential.
