VEON has signed a 10-year agreement with Amdocs to refresh its IT operations. The deal will support digital and AI services across Eurasia.
The move gives VEON a long runway for IT modernisation. It also places Amdocs at the centre of its operational transformation. Amdocs will manage core IT functions and upgrade key systems over the decade.
In practical terms, the agreement aims to improve efficiency and control costs. Operators face rising pressure from data growth and digital service demand. Long-term IT partnerships can help reduce complexity. They can also speed up product launches.
However, a 10-year commitment also brings strategic weight. VEON will rely heavily on one major technology partner. That can simplify operations, but it may reduce flexibility later. Telecom markets change quickly, especially around automation and customer platforms.
The partnership includes technology from QazCode. Amdocs will use it within its aOS platform. AOS is an AI-powered operating system designed for telecom operators. It helps automate decisions and support customer services.
This focus reflects VEON’s changing revenue mix. The company said digital and AI services now generate about 27% of total revenue. That figure shows how operators now look beyond connectivity alone. They want platforms, apps, financial services, and smarter customer engagement.
VEON CEO Kaan Terzioglu said: “Our strategic partnership with Amdocs creates a strong foundation to keep improving people’s lives through digital and AI innovation over the next decade.”
The statement highlights a broader industry trend. Telecom groups want to become digital operators, not only network providers. To do that, they need cleaner IT systems and stronger automation. Legacy systems often slow this transition.
Amdocs also gains a deeper regional role through the deal. The agreement expands its presence in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and wider Eurasia. These markets offer room for digital growth and service innovation.
Amdocs Group President, New Growth Horizons, Anthony Goonetilleke, said: “VEON is one of the most ambitious digital operators in our industry, and exactly the kind of partner we built aOS, the agentic operating system specialised for telco, for.”
He added: “With aOS, Amdocs will help transform VEON’s operations, customer experiences and digital services through verticalised, telco-specific AI, advancing its evolution toward intelligent agentic autonomy. VEON’s trust in Amdocs to lead this journey reflects our shared ambition to shape the next era of the digital operator.”
He also said: “This agreement also expands Amdocs’ presence in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the wider Eurasia region, where we see significant opportunity.”
For telecom engineers and IT leaders, the deal signals a clear direction. AI tools are moving deeper into daily operations. The challenge now is execution, governance, and measurable customer impact.
