The VoIP arena is witnessing a major shift with Scotland’s Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) taking the lead in the adoption of a groundbreaking communications solution. This move is aimed at boosting the operational performance of the new multi-purpose ARC facility, which is situated in the headquarters and training complex of SFRS. The selected VoIP solution, offered by MLL, promises to offer the fire department staff members unrelenting, top-tier, and secure voice communications.
This innovative, geographically diverse voice service was professionally executed by MLL, being completely operational within 48 hours, and encountering no failures. Not only did this allow the SFRS to meet the required go-live date, but the solution was also meticulously tested ahead of time. Consequently, this allowed room for the addition of new features that were not initially part of the design.
MLL’s VoIP installation at Cambuslang ARC marks the beginning of several planned VoIP deployments across varying SFRS sites. Further extending their partnership, MLL is currently test-running satellite-based communications at the SFRS site in Dumfries.
MLL’s Public Sector Enterprise Business Product Solutions Architect, Roy Harby, expressed his satisfaction with the project, saying, “We are very pleased to have been able to meet SFRS’s challenging requirement to deliver resilient new telephony services within only 48 hours and which are aligned with its digital transformation cloud first strategy.”
This transformative move is not only pivotal in amplifying the efficiency of SFRS staff working across different departments, but it also enhances workshop conditions for mechanics who are essential in maintaining firefighting equipment.
SFRS Head of Asset Management, Iain Morris, reinforced this point by stating, “Cambuslang ARC is a major new development to enhance the working conditions for our staff working across different areas of the Service. The building includes a state of art workshop for our mechanics who work tirelessly to keep fire appliances maintained to protect communities across Scotland.”
This makeover is yet another accomplishment for MLL who had triumphed in the implementation of a nation-wide Wide Area Network (WAN) transformation at SFRS last year. This transformation connected over 370 fire and rescue sites scattered across Scotland, significantly improving network speed and enhancing user experience, particularly at remote sites.
