Google Cloud’s Contact Center AI hits general availability
Google Cloud has announced the general availability of Contact Centre AI, which will enable corporations to deploy virtual agents for basic customer interactions. The service is built using conversational AI engine Dialogflow, the development suite for creating conversational interfaces such as chat bots and interactive voice responses (IVR). Furthermore, Google Cloud has introduced Cloud Run, a service for managing Knative for serverless apps like Kubernetes, and has also launched the Network Intelligence Centre, an AI-driven network management service.

Moto Razr 2019 is official: A foldable smartphone with no display crease
One of the most iconic and best-selling flip phones is reborn. Motorola has unveiled the Moto Razr folding-screen smartphone with a large OLED display that folds in half. The most interesting thing about the new phone is the hinge design: there is a large empty space around it, so when the phone is folded in half, the display bends into a gentle curve rather than a hard crease. Instead of having the hinge mechanism behind the display, like on Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, Motorola has the hinge on the left and right side of the display.

Liquid Telecom launches fastest East to West Africa fibre link
Pan-African telecoms group Liquid Telecom has launched what it claims to be the fastest direct land-based fibre link connecting East to West Africa across the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company said that this expansion will connect millions of DRC residents and thousands of enterprises to Liquid Telecom’s “One Africa” broadband network linking the African continent to the rest of the world. Nic Rudnick, Group CEO of Liquid Telecom, said, “We have set a new benchmark and achieved a historic milestone in our vision to create a more connected Africa.”

Ericsson, Qualcomm complete 5G DSS call with Swisscom
Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies have made the first over-the-air 5G data call using dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) in their collaboration with Swisscom in Switzerland. DSS is a technology that allows a base station to transmit both 4G LTE and 5G NR communications at the same time in the same frequency band. In addition, Swisscom was the first service provider in Europe to launch 5G services commercially last April, using 3.6 GHz spectrum. The company is now taking the next step toward realizing its goal of reaching 5G coverage of 90 percent population by the end of this year.

OpenText acquires data backup and security platform Carbonite for $1.42 billion
OpenText, one of Canada’s biggest software companies specialising in helping enterprises manage all their content and unstructured data in the cloud or on-premises, is acquiring Carbonite, a global leader in data protection and cybersecurity. According to the announcement, the deal is worth USD 1.42 billion and represents a 78% premium on Carbonite’s closing stock price on September 5, the last trading day before the media first reported speculations about a potential sale process. OpenText operates in 40 countries, providing a proven platform for growth and new sales opportunities.
